Dragon's Story
Dragon's were not always the fierce elemental beasts we know today. A long time ago, before the rise of men, they were very timid and humble creatures. They rarely ventured beyond their territory, except maybe to steal from livestock if food was low, and they never attacked unless provoked. However, their large intimidating figured drew the attention of males and females who wished to have their names forever written in history by slaying the 'almighty dragon.' Since the dragons were naturally timid, they proved no match for the 'heros of old.' The dragons were few in number and very spread out, which made it difficult for them to group together and defend eachother.
It was not long before the dragons were nearly extinct. Forseeing the oncomming doom of the species, the gods took action and blessed the dragons with the ability to control the elements. Never before had one species been given the ability to crontrol all of the elements within its population. Now, despite their timid nature, the dragons were able to defend themselves. Hero and heroine alike fell before them. They changed from being a scarce, timid creature, to a ferocious, mighty beast. Their numbers swelled and they reigned havok upon the peoples who had nearly whiped them out.
One dragon by the name of Arkdoganus realized what his kin were doing. They had become the very thing they and their ancestors had hated and feared. He spread this wisdom and gained many followers, enough to proclaim himself the lord of dragons. He and his people ushered in a new era of piece and prosperity for all creatures in the world.
The dragons created cities in the sky. They built homes and civic halls, nurseries and schools. It was something to be seen. Of course, they were nothing to match the cities we know today, but it was quite an impressive feat for such brutish creatures. The reminants of their lost civilisation are marked by the towering Xitor mountains. As an empire may rise, so too must it fall.
Arkdoganus and his followers fled the lands when the race of men emerged from the pool of creatures, realizing that they could never co-exist with such a reckless and dangerous spiecies. The last known recorded sighting of Arkdoganus was over the skies of Keliopolis, as he and "a sworm of flying lizard beasts" flew over the tiny settlement and out to sea.
The dragons that chose to remain have either been slain after several attacks and counter-attacks on human, elf, dwarf, and gnome settlements throughout history, or they have retreated deep into their now forgotten lairs. Either way, the time of the dragons is gone and another may never been seen again on these lands for the rest of eternity.
